charcoal canister?

is that even the real name for it? what is it? do i need it? what does it do? when i bought my truck (i bought it built already)the previous owner pointed at a box under my bed and said "thats the charcoal canister" not knowing what the hell it was i just said "ok".so i got my bed off and just rerunning some new airline,mounting bags on link bars and crap like that and wanted to get rid of that thing if it wasnt needed cuz i got my bed off and it would just be a good time to do it since the beds off. so can i trash it? can it be relocated? help please!

you can trash it, helps out on gas mileage if you kept it....i took mine off...it is called a charcoal cannister

That is the correct name. In California, you need it to pass smog, so I hear. The smog guys look for it, so I kept mine. Just stuck it under the battery tray.

ok we dont have the smog crap way down in georgia haha,but anyway,i kinda half assed looked at it but i believe there is a line running from the gas tank to the canister.if i remove it do i need to cap the gas tank or what?

Yeah I ditched mine too. My check engine light came on after that but it eventually went off.

i ditched mine and the engine light came on for about a week and then went off and i get the same gas milage as before so i dont know what the purpose was...but my ford came with a lot of extra parts so i aint complainin

it regulates the emmisions from the gas tank, or some shit like that. Im dithcing mine when i cut my fenders.

ok cool, now what do i do about the line running to the gas tank after i remove it. how do i cap where it used to be on the gas tank?

Get a vaccum line cap, and a small hose clamp.
