fuel pump issue

I have a 98 Tacoma & my Walbro fuel pump isn't kicking on anymore. At first the engine just died & then cranked up after several minutes of attempting to restart it, this went on for a couple of days but now my pump isn't coming on at all. Walbro told me that the problem isn't with the pump since the problem started out as an intermittent issue *the pump is only 1

Well I pulled the pump out of the tank & tested it & it is defective. Does anyone know what the factory Tacoma fuel pump voltage is supposed to be? I'm reading about 8.5 volts at the harness connection with the pump unplugged & 5 volts when the pump is plugged in...the pump is shorting out & it gets hot to the touch.
