wow a few inches? you better check on how the pump and pickup is setup on the motor, you may not be able to raise the bottom of the pan that much. also, a few inches vertically is alot of oil volume you will be loosing, possibly having the engine run dry at times.

I know Miles (Short Rodeo) took a lot off of his. But, he pretty much built and entire pan off the stock flange. He lowered the frotn of the pan and raised the back to keep the capacity close to stock. I think he lost about .4 capacity or something.

Sorry about the quality but i took them with my camera phone way back when.
I attempted to shorten my origonal pan 1 time.. and it lost close to 1/2 of its capacity, so to take much out of it you need to make it a differnt shape like i did. Like seth said im only shy of capacity by 1/2 a quart and i took like 3" out of the height.
Oh yeah and sorry for the fake out on the Drain location, i wanted it back the in the back of the pan, but thats where the oil pickup ended up so i moved the drain to the front so i wouldnt have any oil flow issues.

And there ya go. The man himself with pics. He already knows how to do it, so if you're going to pay someone to do it, maybe sen it to Miles? If its cool with him.

I sectioned the pan on my Toy. I moved the pickup tube also. what I did was get an oil filter relocation kit. it's the best thing to do when your losing that oil capacity. It will add at least a quart, also you can add on an oil cooler for more capacity. I've seen people make the pan wider and fatter for more capacity. Sometimes you can get a "low profile" pan. I know they would have em for a 350 chevy but I don't know about your motor. If you can't figure it out, I'll see if I can help you.
