I have a 96 Tahoe LT and I bought it to use the 4x4 for something and do a little off roading but the stupid radio cuts out all the time. Its the stock tape deck radio with the cd player at the bottom of the dash. I bought a new cd player and installed it and it turned on said it was playing and no sound comes out. The stock radio dose the same of no sound comeing out and then it might scream for a min and then cut out again. what is the cause of the problem....rember both stock and after market radios do not work.

Several things to check for:
-conditiion of harness wires
-connection of wires to harness

You are shorting out or loosing connection somewhere... its just a matter of tracking it down

The factory amp is under the drivers seat. It only runs the rear door speakers. U can bypass it. its junk anyways. Make sure you dont have any blown speakers as well. They will cause the radio to go into protect and wont play anything.

i had the same problem with my ranger, upon examination of the wiring harness i noticed one of the wires were bare and was shorting out against a piece of metal behind the dash. New wire and now it works perfect
