Maybe a first gen s-10 bumper(93ish for a smoother look) sunk back close to the body. With a nice home made valance to fill in the bottom???
Might not be too simple, but would look good with the body lines.
Maybe a 98 up s-10 bumper and valance also, but that may be a bit too rounded for the lines on a courier?

An 86-93 2wd bumper looks really good on the front of the older style truck. I believe that it requires the fenders be modified but I'm not sure 100% A Toyota buper looks pretty good if you lengthen the ends to meet the fenders.
