what do you mean? skinning a door usually means replacing the complete outer skin of sheet metal. buying a door shell is a better option if you ask me...

why buy a whole shell if nothing else is fucked up on the door?

i would rather skin a door than shave a bodyline.

i think 22 or 24 guage would be fine.

Sorry, I guess I was thinking that if we're asking what gauge metal to use, then we're probably not experienced in body work and that buying a shell would simplify things a lot...

I'd try to use 18 guage. Thats the only way you're going to get much stability out of it. With enough shape 20 guage will hold up well, but it takes a lot of shape to make it strong.

try to use 18gauge if you can, it will be much more stable, and will deffinentally hold up to welds better also.

ive heard of ppl using 20&22 before also.

you shouldnt have to weld much, just where the belt molding goes. grind off the edges of the old skin and cut at the post if your not replacing the whole thing. its pretty simple what to do once you get the old skin off.
