I am finishing up my bed and had a few questions.

1. Can you use bondo or body filler under Line X?

2. Does the bare metal have to primed and or sealed or even painted before line X is sprayed in?

yes and yes. it needs to be at least primed before they will line-x it. Apparently they have there own primer, so ask about that. The last box we sent out to get done, they had to take off all of our primer and use there's to 'ensure the linex would adhere'

Jason-
Be careful when using bondo. You can use it, you just have to make sure it does not absorb any moisture(water or sitting outside overnight). Linex is sprayed at very high temps and will evaporate the moisture and will cause bubbling. Linex will not stick to bare metal either, so you do have to use primer. Any good quality primer will work.

you'll need to prime the bare metal with "METAL ETCHING" primer.

i had to remove my first coat of primer and re-prime it with that stuff when i line x'd my bed.

Ok cool. I have some DP90 epoxy primer that I can use. And the body filler won't see any moisture sine the truck stays in my shop all of the time. Thanks for the help guys.

One more thing.

Does line X cover a lot of imperfections? Such as factory spot welds in the bed floor? That's what I wanted to smooth out with bondo.

hey man, i worked for line-x for about a year. Now i spray for ultimate truck part time. Because Line-x is high temp high presure, and has a real course texture, any imperfections will show, because it has a 14 second dry time it does not really settle down and cover over things, also make sure that your bondo is fully cured or else it will cause a bubble effect and it will have to be re-sprayed, finally any self eching primer will work, i like to dust it on, that way the product will stick but when i want to throw a new liner in, it takes 10 mins to pull the whole thing, and you don't have to sit in your bed with a chizzle for hours, PLUS your ould liner make a great mat for your garage.

Is there a good spray in liner like Rhino or another that settles to hide imperfections?

I see I never knew you had to use primer first A friend of mine is building a truck for a guy and had the bed coated but left the tubs bare steel and now the coating is just flaking off.

I didn't know either. I also didn't know it went on hot. I did know it went on with high pressure but I thought for sure it would hide imperfections since it is up to 1/4" thick or something like that.

I have a Rhino Linings and I am REALLY happy with it. I have seen a few Line-X beds and I am glad I got what I did. I'm not saying one is better than the other but.... what a minute, ya I am! Rhino Linings all the waySteve
