The reason for the pigs being genetically engineered like this is for disease research. Such diseases such as cancer are much easier to see against the flourecing tissue.

Engineered animals with flourecing skin have been around for a while, but what is unique about these pigs is that ALL of their internal organs are flourecent as well.
