Does anyone know just how far you can pull the driveline out of the tranny before it flops out on the ground? Its on a 95 blazer 4dr 4.3 auto tranny. With my new set up i had to move the axle back 1.5" in the up position (so its centered layed out) and i noticed what appears to be a little extra shiny area on the tranny part of the yoke exposed when aired up, not sure if i should get the drive line lengthened or not. When aired out it can slide into the tranny an inch or so. Anyone else had to deal with this. I know others have moved the axle back slightly for various reasons. ???????/
thats normal, it all comes with the adjusting part, it will pull out and push in depending on where youve lifted it to. if everything is done right it wont come out. if you push it in to far you could blow a seal, and that could be bad. but you shouldnt have to mess with it unless your puttting a 350 in.
Assuming you have access through your bed...I'd unbolt the driveshaft aired up. Then set the shaft to the side and air it out. Like Steve is saying, check to make sure it isn't forcing itself into the tranny (rubber motor, tranny and link bushings will flex so just because it doesn't seem to be it might be) That's where I'd start.
Oops, i just read my posty and realized i screwed up, with it AIRED OUT, the driveline is still not all the way in the tranny, i can see at least 2" of shiny area protruding, then when its aired up it pulls out even more, which is normal to some degree, but how much can it pull out, before it becomes a prob, i just dont want to yank it out and have to possibly mess up the seal sticking it back in.
My initial point was/is, i might have to get the driveline lengthened to get it seated almost all the way in the tranny when down , so that when lifted it wont be an issue of falling out. Anyone know what it cost to get a driveline lengthened???
All this to avoid sectioning the door when layed out, damn!
Your gonna have to pull the shaft unless someone else knows the exact measurement (and even then I'd suggest doing it yourself unless your comfortable trusting your life to an internet gangsta) Find out how long that slip yoke actually is.
ya, i have to agree with you on that one, ill yank it out tommorrow and measure, ill post the results in case it'll help anyone else out in the future.
I would think if your not seeing the splines throughout your movement then it will be ok.
I believe the splines are on the inside of the yoke on that driveshaft so you wouldnt see any splines no matter how far pulled out it was
Im sorry your right , Im just use to looking at my slip-n-spline on my 2 piece driveshaft. The drive shaft that goes into the tranny is smooth. I would just pull it out and measeure it
