Antenna Wire

On my 1994 oldsmobile cutlass surpeme daily driver the stock antenna was one of those motorized telescoping ones.....and it broke off....now my radio reception sucks
I went to autozone and they sell regular antennas and i bought one of those, but the antenna wire in my trunk has a male plug on it and the 2 foot lead on the new antenna has a male plug
So i was wondering if i can cut the plugs off and solder the 2 pieces of antenna wire together....Or will soldering it screw up the reception??????
I checked for female adaptors locally, but nobody has them
Any input is appreciated!!!

Yea that will work fine. Do it all the time at work. Just don't let the two wires touch though.
