you should tell him you never authorized the work on the blazer, and that they can't put a mechanics lien on something without the authorized signature of the registered owner on the work order. Any judge would say "too bad so sad" to his mechanics lien.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I sold an escort to a friend and she sold it to a coke dealer, and he left it for dead and i got a call from the police and a letter. it's still in the impound... not worth the $30 to get it out.

Good thinkin Russ. So the lien he mentioned has to do with him trying to hold me responsible for paying? I know the dealership is asking $600 for tow/storage, and it's because of these guys "thinking it was the best way" but are both charges trying to be put onto me? or just the tow/storage and the lien is something between them up in SD?

it says I have until the 7th to pay, or whatever..

My friend has a towing business and they do alot of impounds. They go through this same situation. They have to send certified letters to the register owners. If the owners dont respond within 30 days they can take that information to the state and have the state look into it. Once the state verifies everything, they send it to a judge. The judge signs of on court orders that the vehicles in question have to be auctioned off at a public auction. Then they auction it off and the highest bidder at the auction gets the paperwork from the judge and they can use that paperwork to get a legal title from the state. Its not a salvaged title, it is a free and clear title. There is no way that these guys that have a "lein" on this truck can get the vehicle unless they buy it at the auction. Thats the only way they can legally get a title on it. They dont have anything stating that you authorized any work on this vehicle and if they did they would be getting the certified letter also. All lein holders have to be notified as well. So I would say that if you want to get it back your in the clear if you pay the storage fees and towing charges. Alot of times the towing company will work with you on the price too. I have bought several vehicles through my friends auction and I have seen the entire process. Sorry for the book, Just trying to help.
