i need to know an average price on how much a shop would charge to port match and polish a intake, and heads for a 350?
you could call your local machine shop and ask them, i am sure they will give you the right price. machine work is gonna vary from shop to shop, so just call the one you plan on using.
ALL DEPENDS ON THE PARTS (WHETHER OEM OR AFTERMARKET) AND, THE SHOP. SINCE YOUR DOING HEAD WORK, YOU'RE PROBOBLY AT LEAST GOING TO DECK THE HEADS AND GET THE VALVES DONE AS WELL, WHICH RAISES THE PRICE AGAIN. AS STATED ABOVE, A LOCAL MACHINE SHOP COULD DO WHAT YOU REQUESTED, BUT IF YOU WANT REAL HIGH PERFORMANCE YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT SENDING THE BLOCK/HEADS ETC OFF TO A PRO ENIGNE BUILDER/RACE SHOP. A LOCAL SHOP WOULD CHARGE YOU RIGHT AROUND 800-900 FOR YOUR REUESTED MACHINE WORK. A PRO BUILDER, WOULD BE SUBSTANTIALLY MORE.
its all about flow testing with porting and polishing.
personally, I'd get in touch w/ panhandle performance (in florida). they have a web site i think. they sell aftermarket heads that they port and polish and can match a custom cam to them for very reasonable prices, for example, i got a quote on world products roush 180 or 200 heads w/ a custom cut cam w/ lifters for about $1279 that would turn a virtually stock 351 into a 350-400 hp motor. they do complete motors too! That's a lot of bang for the buck and i'm betting chevy shit is a bit cheaper too.
