Ight fellow MT's. Heres a good one. The latch on my drivers side door is broke and will not release the door. What is the best way to fix the problem? Break the latch from inside the door or cut the striker off? Feed back on this is greatly appreciated.
latch broke? or handle broke? if the latch is broke, you have to get the door panel off and release the latch at the latch. if its broke well then.......... fuck around with it with ascrew driver and unlatch it. if its the handle thats cake.
cut the door off and go doorless haha well hmmmm i dont know i havent had or heard of any problems like that i know mine gets stuck once in a while and the latch will stay closed when i open the door and i would shut it and it wouldnt latch so i just greased mine and it helped out lots

Listen to Jason and take your door panel off before you go breaking anything!

What im thinking happened is your pins and bushings were shot, this a a very common problem with GM vehicles. Was your door lifting when you shut it? did the door have a little bit of up and down slop at the hinges? If so, from shutting the door hard and hitting the striker in the wrong position on the latch it destoryed the latch. Ive seen it happend hundereds of times working at body shop.
If this is the case, you need to find a way to get the door panel off, and try to manually open the latch from inside the door. If it wont open, its time for some fun. You'll have to take a die grinder and procede to destory the latch as much as needed to get the latch to open. Good Luck!!
BTW: was it the drivers door? This problem is more common on the drivers door because it gets used more often, which wears the pins and bushings quicker.
Its the drivers side door, and yeah thats exactly what the door has been doing everytime it shuts it lifts when it hits the latch. Ive already took the door pannel off thank god i didnt break it, but yeah im gona have to beat the hell out of the latch or cut it, i guess. After i fix all this is there any way to fix the lifting problem????? Originally posted by FloorVair

YOU CAN INSTALL NEW PINS AND BUSHINGS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE FROM YOUR GM DEALER
suicide the doors
and shave them
New pins and bushings in the hinges are a must, your lucky it didnt rip the striker outta the cab, that would really sucked.
