how do i get into?

im enrolled in college now with an undecided major and want to get into some kind of english major. i would like to get into the journalism field mainly. how would i get into writing for magazines and freelance stuff. if anyone has an english major or is in the journalism field could i get some tips or help of some kind for direction to take it

probly do a apprenticeship for a company for 5 years without getting paid,lol
