I just discovered my heders arent smog legal in Ca. The CARB inspection is still pending. If it wasnt for visuals I would be driving my truck right now. Im in a bad pickle to cuz my old exhaust manifolds are warped and I just got the exhaust pipes hooked up for the new heders. Any suggestions guys? try to find some doners at a junkyard? Or is there a different route I can take? I heard some places do quick glance visuals and dont pay attention to what you have goin on under the hood. Is that true?
Can you use your old manifolds just until you get inspected, then go home and swap them out?
You can always pay for an illegal smog... You're guaranteed to pass those...
Buy a set of JBA's off of ebay or something. They have a little plate on them with a number. Cut it off of those and tack it on yours. Or if your friend has a set of JBA's on his truck borrow the tag
Or you could call JBA and see if they would send you a tag
is it the smog place or is ot the dmv inspection that got you
Thats why you make sure you buy smog legal stuff BEFORE you put it on when you live in Cali! More than likely, you wont be able to buy a "replacement" carb exemption tag from any manufacturer without proof of purchase of that exact product (I had to go through that with K&N for a customer who lost his sticker before he even installed the intake) And most smog places will not pass (look the other way) you with non-carb approved parts, its too risky. Thats why IF you can find someone to do an illegal smog it'll cost you around $300-350.00. I would swap 'em out now, then switch back after words. Just remember, you'll probably have to do it again in 2 years or when you sell it. Good luck!!
Oh yeah, and if you have to go to a "smog only" station instead of a smog/repair/gas station, they are even stricter about the rules. And that makes it even harder to find an "illegal" smog.
I bought it off summit and it said 50 state legal but i guess its not. I took it to a test only smog shop. he went ahead and tested my emissions and said it ran perfect but the visuals is what scrwed me over. My best bet is try to find a way to get the old ones on. thanks guys...
how the hell can they not pass you on a visual when it was tested and passed the smog, that and it being sold as a 50 state legal product? doesn't make sense, seems highly subjective on the inspectors knowledge of the parts he is looking at.
