In VERY bad Need

I am having a HUGE problem with my compressor, I have always had it wired to the battery without a fuse nor a solenoid. now after about 5 months the switch and wires are starting to burn up so im stuck any one have a GOOD wiring diagram on how to hook it up the RIGHT way (viair 450c, solenoid, fuse, 40 amp toggle switch) I really need some help
