not really anything to do with minitruckin, but i tried in the offtopic and no results, i was wonderin if we have anyone that has been to school for machine tool technology, like dealin with cnc machines and lathes, millwork etc, i need a "career", and i think this would be kinda fun to do, wonderin if anyone has been through school for this and if it is a good job (both pay and fun i guess you would say) and fairly easy to find work?

i'm one class away from my Machine Tool & Die degree bro...everyday (other than weekends) for the last 3 years i have been working with cad, cam, cnc, manual mill, lathe, wire edm, ram edm, everything machine tool related. It's been awesome and i really love it. My teacher tells us that he's had students graduate and start their first jobs at $25-$35/hr. I have really learned alot. If you enjoy fabrication or design work then i say go for it man. I was on my way to the university of louisville with no idea of what i wanted to do. I got distracted by an open house that my machine tool school was having and never made it to UofL. No regrets what so ever

yeah i did my machinist tool and die maker degree i finished in about 2000 its ok money i guess i was making about 60000 but its a dieing trade as an operator you are only going to make about ten dollars an hour and as a programmer maybe 20 or so cause everything is going to cnc im lucky that i was a die maker also otherwise i would have been screwed cnc makes you worthless i wouldnt get into it if your not into it already

yea i would get into the programming/designing end of it because you will learn how to be a machinist and at the same time you will leatn how to design, tolerance and create programs to cnc parts. Machinist jobs are very boring from what ive heard because it basically entails setting up one job and then letting that run and while thats running set another all day long.

cnc sucks bro thats not being a machinist anymore than buying shit from aim and bolting it on makes you a fabricator being a machinist or tool and die maker is auctly exciting but id never ever be a cnc operator or set up those guys are just displaced farmers for the most part

cnc sucks? tell that to the companies who depend on mass production. Tell that to the wheel makers and the injection molders. The world is more fast paced now than it's ever been. It's all about supply and demand and to say that cnc sucks is ignorant on your part. Apparantly you know nothing about cnc. You must not see how much time and knowledge goes into programming a part. Sure the machine cuts it out but it would have no idea which moves to make if someone didn't make the commands. Its cool that your a labored tool maker, which i know that side of the field also but to say that cnc sucks and there is no money in it and its not fabrication is just a stupid comment. There is a difference between running a cnc machine and writing cnc programs...
