you can do it with autocad if you draw stuff in 3d with an x,y, and z axis. the easiest way is using something like inventor or solidworks because you can make individual parts and then put them into an assembly and add pivot points and motion to them to check for interferences. My roomate made one thats a whole rear clip axle and all and he also designed it with a true canti 4 link and he has it set up to travel like the real thing would and he can check for pinion angle changes and he can also add shocks to check for interference and binding.

I have been around autocad over 10+/- years total. using it cince 1999. for drawing is wonderful and very user friendly. For drafting is the BEST. For a working on 3d mechanical drawing great representation, but is NOT the best. If you want a true working drawing along with the 3d representation that tells you if your invention is going to work or not, then you need solid works (or structural woks if you donig structures). Inventor will only get you so far and it still wont be that much help as far as animating your drawing.

now remember any of these programs can only give you what you tell them to, I mean It will not thell you that 2X3 square tubing will hold the wheight of your cab. you can draw a tube frame and rotait it and color it ect. then Put a cab or the bed on it and so fourth. As far as your schooling, DO NOT GO TO ITT. Unless you are rich. Your local community college will teach you the same for an 1/8 of the price.

how have you been around it for 10 years if you have been using it since 1999

i use autodesk and solidworks for my cad, cam and for my cnc work i use mastercam. i have a full seat (real not pirated shit) of AUTODESK Inventor Professional 8 that i recieved at a machinist competition last year. I'll sell it to you for around $350. Retails for like $475

oh, as far as the cnc. My local machine shop run their cnc from autocad with some 3rd party sofware. They literally draw the piece and hit plot and it goes thru the program on to the cnc. that's a cool set up.

Solid Works is my preference, but most companies that do engineering use PRO-E. Pro-engineer is what I use everyday for my job

hey matt. let me break it down 4 u in simpler terms.

"been around" meand that I have been near in some way shape or form, In this case, my brother was the one showing me the things the he did with the program. he has been using it since 1995+/- relace 10 If I remember right.

In 1999 I started using it in college. With my some drafting backgorund and no real experience, in 10/99 I got my first job as a draftman on autocad 13. That's why said that I have been using it since 1999.
