Guys, I've been dying to say this somewhere, and this just seems right to post it up in here.

I love the entire mini-truck scene. In June '99, I saved all of my graduation money, and went to Carlisle for the all-truck nats from NH. It was my first long distance show, and pretty much my first road trip. We went, we camped, we partied, we got burnt in the sun, we went through a TON of film. But to this day when I think back on some of the best shows, I think about that first one. I think about the parties in the show grounds, I think about draggin' with my friend in his Nissan, and I think about how I came home with a mission to build my own mini so that I could drive instead of just riding along. I was in a car and truck club, and went from the chick who was just "so-and so's girl" to one that people KNEW my name. From hiding behind my guy at meetings, to up on the flatbed at our last show helping present the awards! They brought out the best in me, and helped to make me the person I am today.

Fast forward another 3 years...I bought my first truck. It was an old '87 Tacoma with a blown engine that I got for $500. I sold it when winter came and it still hadn't moved (the hassles of building at the 'rents place). And I still regret it...I still have the craving to build something draggable.

Fast forward to this past weekend! I attended Slamfest in Tampa, FL. I had a BLAST!!! I had gone through a lot in the past couple years...family deaths, friends murdered, near fatal accidents...it was rough, and I dropped out of a lot of scenes that I once loved just because I didn't feel like I had the spirit anymore...I'd been away too long and it was too much work to come back even if I wanted to.
But through an odd set of circumstances, I reunited with a long lost friend from the old car club days back in NH, and it brought back all of the old cravings for anything truck related.
When I stepped onto that showfield Saturday morning, I felt like I was home. I was surrounded by the candy-coated glint of immaculate paint jobs. I saw all of the clubs reppin' together as a family, I saw people who weren't too cool to stop and say hi or strike up a conversation with you without worrying about being "too cool" or "too good" to speak with this person or that person. It honestly felt that even though I knew NO ONE, I had come home to family. I spent most of the 4 hour drive home last night daydreaming about finishing up my current project and building my own truck once again.
I think the mini-madness spokes person (who I still don't know his name, so I'm sorry) said it best when we was on stage yesterday; "It doesn't matter where you live, what color your skin is, guy or girl, what make or model you drive, how you look, what you wear, or anything else...we're family."

So today, when I walked back into my corporate job, with my hair half done because my crispy sunburned skin won't let me lift my arms all the way to the top of my head, draggin' in on three hours of decent sleep, and horse from cheering at the show yesterday, when people walk up and ask me if it was worth it, I look at them, simply grin and nod and tell them, "hell yeah, and I'm going again in 2 weeks!"

Spectator, show participant, fellow mini fan dragging down the local strip....it doesn't matter, as long as the love is there.

So I wanted to tell all you guys thanks for helping me get back to my roots and find happiness in the world again through the entire scene we all love!

Thanks guys...I've been thinking it for a while, just finally got a spot to put it all in.

I've been trying for a long time to get a space to write in a mag somewhere...it just hasn't happened yet. This is an article I got briefly in a long ago online magazine...

Let me ask you a question

Just wanted to let you know that I feel the same. The mini truck scene is the best, I have got to hang out with some of the coolest guys and have made some great friends. No matter what, every show I have ever been to, has been great. One of the most fun shows and one that is still my favorite to this day is Slam Fest. Good Times!!
