i have discovered some small areas of rust on the underside of my bed. its in the areas where the bed support cross pieces were in contact with the frame. Now i know por15 is the best way to go here but at 33$ a quart versus the 8$ or so for some naval jelly or rust neutralizer i just wonder if any of you have used either of those. Its such a small area that i wouldnt want to invest $33 plus shipping in it if i didnt have to. literally 3-4 brush loads of paint would cover what i need to cover. and i have ground and sanded the areas down as best i could. so some opinons please?

lol naval jelly, i got an infection one time, and i think i had that comin out.
if it's not bad rust, you can use fine steel wool from autobody supply shops, i've use it to get surface rust off chrome, hard water spots off old glass and trim etc. doesn't leave a scratch

i just broke down and bought a 36$ quart of por-15 rust paint. this way i wont have to worry about it and i am going to give my dad the rest of the quart for one of his projects.

the funny thing i always run into is some guy is worried about alittle rust on the bottom of his bed, and he wants to "rust" proof the "rusted area" but doesnt worry about the hole in the floor board under his feet.. or he sells the car in a year any way

por-15 is way good shit though......i have it all over the under body on the caddy (frame, a-arms, rear trailing arms) if you want to go a step further you can also get black coat, also made by por-15 adds a perfect uv resistant coating that is high gloss and durable as hell.

yeah i had used por15 before on my dads truck frame and know that its good stuff. and this rust on my bed braces is the only rust on my truck. i know this because i have stripped every inch of paint off it (and have sprayed etching primer on) I was proud of the truck it will be 20 next year and its rarely been garage kept so it did good about not rusting.
