Depends on were you want to be in the magazine world. Theres a ton of things you can do. Trust me when I tell you this, its not going to be easy getting anything out of these guys, lol. Pay do's and get a journalism degree, like myself i'm working on my photo journalism degree and have to take courses in photography as well journalism,so i'll be able to shot and write for a publication. I hate to say it but like alot of things in this industry, its not what you know its who you know.

i'd love to work for a magazine, mintruckin, street trucks, truckin, tailgate, whatever. i want to work in the art or marketing department. but i agree that you need to know someone. that's how the world is. the most qualified person would lose a job to the employer's best friend's girlfriend's brother.

but...if you do get in, hook me up with a job too.

I don't know if it's that bad. Maybe the person got the job because they ARE more qualified then the next person and they just so happen to be friends. Big Deal! Look at Mike Alexander and Chad Lucas, those FUCKERS are homies and they have done things in the past 3 issues of Mini-Truckin' that hasn't done before. I think the mag is at the top of it's game right now and it's only going to get better, and they are friends.. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it is like that all the time but that is an instance that proves the theory wrong. Good luck though to you in your magazine career and don't give up!!

if you want to BADLY get into one of your favorite magazines, i suggest offering them an unpaid - intership of say 6 months. Perhaps, if you do that and learn the ropes, and do a good job, they might hire you. If not, youve got yourself a resume builder to hit up the other companys...

never know ... my buddy got his job for a large TV company doing something like that, Sure, he didn't get paid for 6 months, but after they hired him he was pulling decent bank, and has a job he loves.

It doesnt take a degree to work for a magazine.Chad nor Mike have one.I suggest you move to Southern Cali thats where Primedia is based out of and your best chance of getting a spot is being close by.

JOURNALSISM DEGREE WOULD BE HELPFUL, BUT TOTALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF MAG YOUR INTO......most mags have apprenticeship programs and intern programs......hit em up. ohhhh uh........new reality tv series...

Thanks for all the suggestions. I know I am going to have to think about moving if I want to work for one of the major magazines one day. Some of my classmates and I have been contemplating starting up a local magazine/newsletter while we are in school.
