When was the last time you broke down?

Ok, so this idea was brought to me, and someone is asking me to help out and see if there would be any interest at all. When was the last time you were out of your hometown and you broke down on the side of the road? Either travelling, visiting someone, at a car show, where ever? Anyone with a minitruck, I'm sure you can think of at least ONE time when this has happened. And chances are if you are out of town, you have no idea where to find airline, tools, parts, etc if you break down, unless you happen to be in a huge club that has members all over the united states. So the idea that was brought to me is this, a "Mini Trucker's Registry" where people can voluntarily register in case something like this happens. Also people that are in a position to help someone out if they break down, things like that. Basically, this is what happens, you are driving to visit your inlaws two states over, and you blow an airline. You would then have the ability to call the "MiniTruckers Registry" and someone would be able to help you find someone or a shop in the area that would be able to help you out and get you back on the road. What do you guys think about this?

that would be pretty cool i would be down to give some airline (or whateve) to a "fallen minitrucker" and perhaps a better question would be when was the last time you drove your mini and it didn't break down? LOL

a minitrucker named jason tried to organize this a few years ago, even got a blurb in MT about it. Ended up with about 15 names. Mine too.

I hope you have better luck, but most people on here are internet minitruckers, and couldnt find a broken airline with both hands and a map.

Well, I'm fortunate enough to get to go to a lot of shows, I know a lot of shop owners and people on teh east coast, I would probably need to incorporate someone's help to get the west coast.

Like I said, someone brought the idea to me this weekend after we sat on the side of the road helping out someone who we had never met before in our lives. He was travelling from his parents house to his house and his airline melted. He had no idea how to get it fixed other then to sit there and wait for a couple hours until his dad could get there with some airline.

its a good idea
but if i go on a road trip i bring everything but a spare frame and a tire machine lol

20 feet of airline, fittings, spare valve~lol, spare bag....as well as a spare belt and upper and lower radiator hoses

anything beyond that then i figure i will get it towed to the local parts store or tire shop

a good idea is also to check out everything before you ever leave.....

You sound like someone who has broken down quite a bit! I know what you mean, we don't travel without extra airline, bag, etc either. But I guess you don't think about that if you are just taking a quick trip 2 or 3 hours away from your house.

My best breakdown story was sitting on teh side of I-40 with a flat tire in a big lowered blacked out dualy, and NO ONE stopped to help us. It was 19 miles to one exit and 25 miles to the exit we had passed. That was years ago before I had a cell phone, we were making a cross country trip after picking up the dualy in CA, we were bringing it home to VA.

I think it is a good idea. I know I would be more then glad to help someone out. Always willing to give spare line or a valve if the need is there.
