Looking for a short, small engine for body drop

I have a '74 Mazda that I am contemplating body dropping to the doors. My plans were to drop a rotary in there but I was wondering if there are any shorter engines out there that would make it possible to body drop it to the doors (6-7 inches maybe) without cutting the hood... anyone got any suggestions? Horsepower is not an issue, hood clearance is.
