Front End Problems.. alignment, ect.

My brother took his hardbody to get a front end alignment today since he got new tires.. and they estimated the total to be around $650.. since they said he needed not just an alignment but some of this stuff as well. could someone explain what some of this means.. i know the alignment and balljoints, but what else is this..
1 Idler Arm/Inst/C1 Center Link/Inst/C1 Lower Balljoint/RF/Inst/C2 Tighten Wheel Bearing
* L/S Balljoint needs tightening or replaced.
Total $620.94
Thats exactly what the estimate paper says.. and they wouldnt just give him the alignment without him paying for all of that..
