Need some help w/ my Engine Driven.

I just installed my Engine Driven on my 01' V6 S10 today but ran into a prob with the V-Belt that goes on the Compressor. When I installed the last pulley on the compressor bracket and hooked up the V-Belt, I wasnt sure if I run the belt under or above the pulley? It sounds like from the directions the belt goes under it and when the pulley slides down then the belt will get tigher but this Isn't the case. When the belt is run under it I can slide the pulley all the way down and still have slack in the V-Belt and thats with every bolt tight. Now if I run the Belt above the pulley it will get tighter but still have a little bit of play. Not as much as the other way but I guess that would be the only way seeing how the other way dont work. Any help with this is appreciated.
