All you guys that make your own movies

got a samsung minidv for christmas and i have recorded a few things that i would like to put on my computer. I have all of the cables and everything to do it but i cant seem to get the video on my computer. I have a sony camera that uses the memory card and i can put that in the camcorder and save movies that way but there are 2 problems with doing it that way. 1. you cant store any big movies and 2. whenever i get the movies on the computer, they are really choppy and unclear. What program do you guys use to get your movies on the computer?
