air cleaner on a maz

i was wonder how i can get rid of it and use an aftermarket one while keeping the stock carb and exhaust maniflold. is there a way to do this and still have it run right. oh and do you have to tub the firewall if you run 17s. i am new to the maz game always worked on toys and s10s. any help will be appreciated thanxs in advance
