bd on an automatic s10

i am just finishing up a bd on a 95 s10. i have never done an auto b4. what do i do with the link from the steering colomn to the trans. do i need to extend it. the column only goes down 2 clicks like it in nuetral so i am assuming the 3 inch bd brought it down and it is really in d1 and can't come back up to park. any info would be great thanxs
