possibly my new truck but scary

okay heres the thing: my grandpa has an 88-89 mitsu reg cab he will give to me but needs a starter, battery, has an oil leak, not sure if its just one leak or multiple leaks, auto trans, 184000 miles and needs some tlc on the body, but for free!!! and its a 4 banger but im worrired that the motor isnt solid and i was wondering what you all thought and if there was any suggestions as to a motor swap for somethin that would bolt to the trans. i really like the ideas i have planned for it to just slam the piss out of it now and drive it but scared that the motor is trash or not reliable.any suggestions or helpful advice is what im lookin for
