Figured I'd post a couple of pics of what I'm up to with scratchy. Just bought this truck from a friend, and you would swear the thing had the swine flu. Fluids running out of every orifice with gusto. The engine compartment is pretty nasty, and one of the motor mounts fell apart when I lifted it out. So, the teardown has begun. Block is currently at the machinist getting cleaned up, and I found a guy with a 2000 mechanical head to replace the hydro one. Yay valve adjustments! So hopefully I'll be starting with a zero miles engine. The tranny will probably be next, but I'm going to try some GM syncromesh fluid first. Worked wonders on my VW tranny.

Well, I haven't got any new news from the engine machinist, so I got anxious and cleaned the engine compartment with Simple green and a tooth brush. I feel better now. And I'm starting to worry I have slight obsessive compulsive disorder......Oh, well, why not apply it, right? Heres my comparo photo. Simple Green is awesome. I think they should sell it as a deodorant scent, and wd-40 as aftershave.

are you going to clean up the engine bay or leave it stock

I'd like to clean the bay up as much as possible. I'm seriously considering the Weber at this point, and adapting the stock intake system to it to make the smog lords happy until I don't have to worry about it anymore. I don't like clutter, but I also don't want to commit to a full on wire tuck. Just get rid of the crap I don't need, and route the harness a bit more cleanly.

What do u mean adapting the intake system? I too need to please the smog lords and I'm kind of stressing it due to the fact that I know i won't pass... Let me know your ideas. Thanks in advance...

people have passed emissions with the weber. im not sure how but ive read it b4. i just did the weber right after my inspection. and even tho they are supposed to test emmissions, around here they really dont unless they see somthing after market or somthing doesnt look or smell right. lol so over the next year i might try to adapt my old filter housing to the weber just for inspections. then take it off after. it doesnt look hard. cause they might test mine if they see the weber. other than that as long as its all there they dont care.
