Smelly - burning oil

I just picked up a 1990 B2600i that is in amazing condition. HOWEVER, I have a strong smell of burning oil around the truck and interior. I don't believe its burning it out the tail pipe, but the engine itself is covered in oil as is the underside of the hood. I'm thinking a gasket somewhere as the engine runs very well and feels strong (173,000 KM - not miles on the odometer). What is my likely leak and how difficult or costly would it be to repair? Something I can do in my garage myself with a good manual - or take it to a mechanic?

If the engine is covered in oil, then it's probaly on the exhaust manifold, which might be the reason you're smelling burnt oil. Could just be a valve cover gasket.

I had the same problem.. was leaking from my valve gasket over the exhaust manifold, which created that burning smell..

I got a new gasket.. took the old one out.. waked the new one in, and sealed up with proper sealant around the plugs (where you unbolt the cam shaft) and its all sweet..

NO MORE OF THOSE AWFUL BURNING SMELLS!!!

Also high pressure sprayed the block and everything else..

Looks like a brand spanker!
