Temperature sensor location and basic Question.

I have a 91 B2200 with a carburated engine. My question is although my "stock" heat/temperature gauge works fine, I'm looking to add an "aftermarket" gauge. The stock gauge that I have is "electric", but I can't find the sensor on the engine. Where would I find the sensor?
The second question is am I able to run both the stock, and after market gauges off the the same sensor by running two wires from the sensor, or will it only work properly with on gauge connected?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

there are two "sensors" or sending units....there is one where the top radiator hose connects to the engine @ the thermostat housing. the other one i know of is on the bottom driver side of the radiator. I'm not sure which one runs the factory guage. maybe one of the other guys can chime in with that.

The top one with the funny looking kinked hose runs your guage, i didn't have my wire hooked up after i changed my carb, hooked it up and my guage worked again, it should be a yellow wire (86)

When you mention "Kinked" hose, does this wire run withing this hose?
Again thank you so much for the help.

I think when I ran an aftermarket gauge on my old Mazda it was running off a port on the intake manifold. I just left the stock one alone.

ummm i dont think it runs within the house but maybe right beside it, it's been a while. It's right inside the thermostat housing though, just a little maybe 7/16 bolt, cant miss it though

Ok I found the sensor and tried a little test. I unplugged the factory wire from it and hooked up the after market gauge. The after market gauge has a numerical range on it starting at 100 F up to 280 F. When I hooked after market gauge the needle went right up to 280 with the engine at it's normal running temperature. I'm thinking that I might have to use the provided sensor that came with the gauge in order to have the proper calibration with this gauge. Does this sound like the most common issue? I really don't want to replace the factory sensor only because then I'm going to have a dead gauge.

sounds like the ohms (I think thats what its called) is opposite of the stock gauge were as 0 is cold and 98 is hot. and the after market one is 98 is cold and 0 is hot. This will cause them to read opposite of each other. and maybe other odd things.

So you will ether have to find the same ohms as the stock one (which I have no idea of) or use the sensor that came with the after market gauge. You could if your careful drill and tap and new hole for the after market sensor.
