Hey guys just wanted to get a few opionions from you guys. right now im finding myself constantly thinking about what kind of career i want to go into. right now im welding in pretty much a production line and not really liking it nor is the money the best. ive been in a couple areas. a jack of all trades if you will and still have yet to find something that i find fullfilling and enjoy working everyday yet something that i know isnt going to go down the toilet along with the economy. i know this sounds crazy coming from a minitrucker and all but i keep finding all my wants and needs returning back to law enforcement. i cant stand being couped up in a warehouse or office all day and enjoy being out and about in whatever i do. i hate the cold weather and the ungodly hot weather and would like to be outside but not in the weather. two things i can think of is a cop and a truck driver. truck driver makes damn good money if going otr but is never at home to enjoy the money. if i was a cop i would get to be outside and in peoples business. always know whats going on and at the same time not have to work my ass off at work everyday. ofcourse you know that working for the state you get great benefits. most for free. get to retire early as well. something different and new and unexpected everyday at work which is something i need. i hate being bored with what im doing. and honestly it seems all the manufacturing jobs are goin down the drain because of the economy and nobody can afford to buy anything. i was thinking medical but got to thinking if nobody has a job then no insurance and if no insurance less people are goin to go get looked at so medical could go down hill as well. the way i look at it law enforcement will only get better because with no one working the crime rate will go up. at the same time i do not want to lose friends and stuff due to my career choice. just because i would be a cop doesnt mean i change who i am and how i act on a daily basis and when im around the ones i care and love. sorry ive written so much its just this has been on my mind alot lately and need some opionions. if you are going to get on here and say cops are assholes or there gay or something like that then please dont post at all. i want honest and thought out opinions. thanks for reading.

i have a longtime friend that chose to become a cop...i dont talk to him too much anymore but it wasnt because of his career choice. he's still cool and we talk about the days we used to get smoked up and all the crazy shit we used to do back in the day. i've had him in my old s-10 while he was on duty draggin down the highway before too...lol

and it sounds like that something you want to do...so i say go for it....just dont be a dick to people doing the same shit you have done before, you dont have to always be a hard ass cause you have a badge, ya know

wow justin, you know, this is really weird, because I could have written the exact same thing word for word about myself.

If you are willing to go through the amount of schooling it takes for law enforcement, then I say by all means go into that. That is a demanding, but extremely rewarding job. I have alays been interested in law enforcement, but I am not willing to go through all the school and training required,so it's not something I will ever end up doing.

On the flip side, you also mentioned truck driving, which has its pros and cons as well. Pros are that once you're licenced, there is almost no shortage of work whatsoever, but depending on the type of driving you do,you may never be home and nt get to enjy the money. I've recently started to look into truck driving, but not tractor trailers. Just like straight trucks, dump trucks etc.

I too seem to be a jack of all trades. I am a licenced HVAC gas fitter, certified in automotive sales training, but need my Dealer Licence to sell in Ontario,I have a few years experience building automotive seats, metal fabrication, welding, painting, plastic molding, quality control and steel residential/commerical framing.

If you are willing to take the time and go to school, then do what your heart desires. I wouldn't worry about what your friends think or say if you do decide to go into law enforcement. If anything,if any of my friends did that,I would have a little more respect for them because they're actually doing something good for themselves and the community.

when its all said and done it takes around 600 hours of class to graduate. and it would only cost me around 7-800 bucks.

Have you checked into or give the military any thought? You could become a cop in the military and get paid while in school for it. The military is not affected by th economy.Just a thought.

I say do it. My pops is a cop...has been for like 14 years or something. He loves it. A few miss perceptions though.... He does bust his ass pretty much everyday. But he cares and tries to not be a dick and do the right thing. It can be a very stressfull job. He has been threatened with guns, knives, and groups of many people. He has had intense car chases that almost ended in tragedy. He has had infants die in his arms while responding to an auto accident. It is not always about the physical work but the emotional as well. Then you have the worst case...what happens if one of your fellow officers is shot in the line of duty while responding to a basic suspicious vehicle call.... Happened to a real close family friend. I do not want to persuade you not to do it by anymeans I just want you to know up front how rough it could be. There are also tons of rewarding moments, resuing the little old lady within 5 min after a tornadoe took out her house and trapped her in her house..well debris of a house. Being there to help change a teenagers mind when they are heading down the wrong path and seeing them turn their life around. Then the general respect and brother hood you have regardless of where you go. Like I said I have tons of respect for him and his fellow officers.

Well now that I wrote a novel go get yo ass a badge farva!

Justin, for the cost, be a cop! I know it costs alot more to get driver training. I'm 37 and still have the same thoughts! What do I want to be when I grow up? I don't know, but I am OK where I am right now. Life isn't about the choices you have, but what you do with those choices.

$800 to become a cop?! Whaaaat!

Up here you have to go through the Police Foundations program in college, which I think is atleast 2 years and then physical training and all sorts of stuff.

SierraX on here is,or was training to become an RCMP officer. He got shipped out to Saskatchewan for 6 months for training at their base.

It's a lot of schooling and hard work up here, not to mention costly,to become a police officer.

If I really didn't mind going to school and stuff,I would be all over it myself. Yes,it's a tough and dangerous job,but I don't think there is any more job rewarding, other than being in the military,a firefighter or paramedic. It takes a person with a real heart to do what they do.
