Always used a 110v, They work great, But you do have to turn up the heat, So you can weld "as long" as a 210v, But Its what I and my buddy Eric (who does like all my welding) has used for his truck my truck, my other truck our buddies trucks, never any issues

what the hell everybody with custom trucks on here and only 3 or 4 guys stop to give me some input? what do yall think about a hobart handler 140 mig. i think its operates from 30-140 amps. 20% duty cylce at 90 amps. i priced one for about $450. comes with hoses and reg. but ill have to get a cart and all the acc. i would like to get a stick too but i dont have the cash to buy to new welders at the time. i just cant deciede which to get 1st

I know this is an old thread, but just for anyone researching this, you DO have 220 in your house if you have a washer/dryer hookup. Get a dryer cord and tie that into the welder. Just use common sense when making the connections and remember it's better to go overboard when doing this.

^^ not true. i have a washer and dryer... i don't have a 220 outlet. didn't at the previous house i lived in either. If your dryer is gas you only have 110. you can make 220, i've done that before, by wiring 2 circuits together, but i'm not the right person to explain it. i'll set your house on fire for ya...
oh and i roll a lincoln 255C 220V

I have been looking at getting a welder myself...so far everyone is telling me Miller or Lincoln and for welding frame 220 is best though I do have a friend that that did his entire truck with a 110...including a body drop

i talked to max on streetsource and he told me that you can do it on 110 with no problems. you just have to make sure you do it right ie. bevel the edges, clean real good, etc.etc.
personally i would go ahead and buy a 220. i wish i would have known a little more when i bought mine but i have a buddy that wants to buy mine as soon as i step up to a 220. and 220s are really not that much more than a 110.
