This winter/next spring I want to drop a v8 302 into my truck. I have a few questions. I don't know to much about ford motors, ive always been more of a GM guy.

I want an automatic trans, which trans should I go with?

I want to keep a 6 lug or 5 lug(not 4 lug). Which rear end would be narrow enough and strong enough for this swap. I am bagged and body dropped so I need that tuck.

What kind of mounts do i need such as tranny crossmember, motor mounts do I need? Can anyone on here fab those up for me and how much would you want to do so? "send me a pm"

Thanks in advance,
E

The tranny will depend on whether or not you want overdrive. If you are not going to be doing a lot of highway driving I would not worry about overdrive. The swap will be easier without OD. You can use a C4 tranny. They are much smaller than an AOD tranny. You can find parts everywhere for 5.0/302 motors and C4 trannys. If you are going to be leaving the motor stock, I would think you will be fine with a yota rear end to keep the 5 lug. Your other option would be to get a new 9" based rear end. You can order them in any width and any lug pattern. They are not too expensive if you do your research. There are several comapnies out there that build these. Start with

For motor mounts, I am not sure if anyone makes a bolt in mount. I actually have some mounts that bolt up to a 302 block. They are made to bolt to a bushing. I could make the bushing tube and get the bushing if you want. Then all you would have to do is position the motor where you want it in between the frame rails and at the height you want, and fab up some tabs to weld to the bushing sleeve. The mounts are made from chromoly plate and are tig welded. I can take pictures later today when I get home if you are interested. I would probably want $40 + shipping without the bushing. If you want the bushing it will be a couple more $$.

currently in the process of making a 302 swap kit. it will consist of the motor mounts, new tranny crossmember, detailed instructions and possibly a wiring harness if you are going to use a carb'd intake. i am also designing dropped motor mounts for the 2.2 and the 2.6 engines as well. i'll let you know how that goes. also you can look thru the "engine swap" forums and read up on the 302 swap how to.....
