I'm sure this is a dumb dumb dumb question... I have been looking to buy a square body for a while now and finally found one local. It's an 88 GMC 3500 crew cab. Will I be able to put a 5"/7" drop kit on it? I have googled it, but didn't find much and since all you guys are the brain trust behind this I thought I would ask the pro's.....

Thanks

im pretty sure if you are mechanically inclined. a 5-7 drop isnt going to be too bad. the worst part is you will have to cut out a small chunk of your frame to install the rear end c-notch.. but it is all bolt on stuff mainly..

On the 88 square you are either going to get a 3/4 drop or a 6/8 drop. But installation is straight forward on all of it.

Do you work at Sweetwater Brewery or just like the beer?

Thanks. Is the 6/8 bad? Will I be able to keep my inner fenders up front? Does that involve cutting the bed?? I want the bed to stay as close to intact as possible but what the low slung look.... I know everyone wants the baby not the labor pains....

Does someone make a 6/8 for an 88?

I don't work for Sweetwater I work for the distributor that sells it and not sure if I consume more than I sell or sell more than I consume haha... It's great liquid....

Your 88 should be an older square body truck like this one.

I dont think that they make a 5/7 for this style but they do make them for the NBS trucks like this one.

Western Chassis makes the 6/8 kit but finding a place that has them instock/without a 4 month wait is a challenge.

I have a good friend that is a Brewmaster for Sweetwater.

Trying to get the right drop can be outsourced through a few different distributors, LMC, Brothers, Tuckers. Trying to get the one DRW complete setup for the older trucks is getting rough, especially when you want it when you pay for it. BellTech used to offer the the 5/7 for the squares, now its almost non existant. Western stuff is alright stuff. To get the 5/7 now you can get the one ton DRW spindles (2") and use the 1/2 ton 2" drop coils and when putting them in the one ton you get the 3" drop from the weight difference. The rear is all about the flip and the leafs you remove or dont remove. I have done so many drops on these trucks that no 2 trucks with the same drop sit the same. You can get the 6/8 done and it will look like a 5/7 on one truck and look like a 6/8 on another and 7/9 on others. Tire size plays a big roll too. If you use the flip in the rear and dont remove leafs and still want the static low look you can use 1-2" spring shackles in the rear and even lower when you use the 2" lowered spring hanger. A static low dually with a 6/8 is life changing event. Most definatly needing to do the C-Notch or a full bridge.
