Hey, friends!

I'm undertaking a project to change out the water pump on my 1990 carbureted b2200. In the service manual is says to use a ring gear brake special tool # 49 e301 060 to stop the engine from rotating during installation of the crankshaft pully. I have looked everywhere that i can think of to find this special tool with no luck. There's a picture of it in the workshop manual here http://www.mazdabg.com/ftp-uploads/626/GD%20workshop%20manual/F2%202.2i/Special%20Tools%20%28Chapter%20ST%29.pdf . Does anyone have a lead on where i could get my hands on one of these online? Your help is much appreciated =)

You won't need anything special. Just remove the 6 smaller bolts around the larger center bolt, and the pulley will come off. It shouldn't take much force to break them loose.

Correct: that big center bolt that takes a 21mm socket does NOT need to be removed for timing belt and/or water pump on the B2200 engine, I've done my own. Just remove the six small bolts that take a 10mm socket. See http://www.mazdatrucking.com/B2200//B2200_Timing_Belt.html and http://www.mazdatrucking.com/B2200/B22TimeCheck.html and http://www.mazdatrucking.com/B2200/B2200TorqueSpec.html

The six small bolts are listed in that last reference as 9-13 ft lbs, don't overtighten those and break them.

Worst case, if a manual. Put it in 5th gear, and put the park brake on. As long as your park brake works good, and clutch does not slip, it will hold it, but you usually have about 1/4 to 2/3 of a rotation before all of the slack is taken up.
