is 14 gauge to thick ...its the only thickness i can get ...unless someone in pensacola knows where to get 4x8 sheets or 18gauge

18 is the thickest I would go. 14 is going to make it extremely heavy. I will be using 20 on mine.

i used 16 gzauge on mine and its pretty heavy

Thinner the better for any bends and complex shapes. Even for a straight and square, 16ga is the absolute thickest, any thicker it becomes a lot more difficult to work with, plus useless weight.

ok found a place that has 18 20 and 22 gauge sheets ...so what would be best for a bed that only is used for coolers for shows and chairs ...its gonna get linex

It depends on how much bracing you are going to put under the sheet metal. I have seen people use 1/8" with hardly any bracing at all (not the way I would recommend) and I have seen people use 20 ga. with 8" o.c. bracing. I usually go somewhere in between... 18 ga. sheet metal with 1" X 1" .083 bracing. I use a lot of diagonals in the bracing and try not to leave a void larger than 12"-16".

I prefer 16 gauge on the floor and 18-20 gauge on the sides. And definitely build a frame support for it to mount to. I typically use 1" square tube.
