cheap steering u joints?
anyone know where to get them for cheap? i cant see spending 100 bucks for two of them. i was even thinking of cutting some off a car at the junk yard.
besides the junk yard, speedway motors prob. your best bet.they sell the shaft and steering heims also.
this may seem like a dumb question but why do they cost so much?
Jeep Cherokee and Ford shafts use a lot of u-joints, chop em up!
Try Appletree Automotive. I am building a long travel sandrail and I just bought 3, and I think they were like 35, to 40 bucks shipped.. They have them splined, and weld on, I think they even have the double D style as well. Hope this helps.
That was 35 to 40 bucks each...
I bought a small steering shaft off ebay for $15 shipped that had 2 ujoints on it, and used them.
when i did mine i used some stock ones
junk yard it is. i got a question though what is double d?
DD is the rod that looks like a piece of solid round stock that has been milled down to be flat on 2 sides...
Best car to find a DD 3/4" U jonit is a T-Bird the 92ish body style. They have a DD U joint under the dash right where the steering column is about to go through the dash. Easy to get out.
