"Making too much noise", neighbor complains. WTF

Hey, so this morning some guy that lives a couple of houses down  said I was making too much noise.  He was thinking I am running a body shop or something, and said its illegal.  He's basically an old retired grumpy p.o.s.   I was only grinding for about 30 minutes tops on Sunday, what a douche.   Has anybody ever had this problem, what are my rights when it comes to working on my vehicle and making noise? 

Have to look up local ordinances.  I have been called once during the day due to noise.  The cop kindly asked me to stop and I did.  I have a right to make some noise yet others also have the right to peace and quiet.  Strike a happy medium and all can be happy.  Good luck.
