Looking for any and all information on this. How have you guys done it? What do I need to get? Can the average person do this or do I need to pay an electrician? etc... thanks.

depends on your knowledge. If you have no idea what red, white, black, and green are then pay an electrician.

i could walk you through it. I had to run wires for nate powers at the HANGAR in wise VA a few months back so he could start welding on the burb. My dad is an electrician so I guess years of watching him has payed off. Do you have a seperate service in your garage or is it off your house. Its pretty simple but yes it could end your life pretty quick. I always take the extra precaution and kill the power to the house just in case. You will have to reset all your electronics but at least you will have your life. lol.

there are a couple of things that you should be sure of  1. can your panel handle a 220v unit proper load calculations only allow 80amp in an 100 panel. 2. remember that 110v hurts and can kill you, 220v will fuck your shit up(i've been hit with both)  3. if you can turn the main off do it reseting all your clocks is better than death 4. if you not comfortable doing it don't, its not that much money  to have someone do it.
