my friend has a 89 jeep cherooke and she says it starts up and runs i guess but it leaks oil out the bottom.. what could b the problem.. im thinking just the oil pan gasket but im open to some more suggestions

its a jeep, oil leaks are normal   LOL - more clarification on "bottom" - is it running off the pan, nowhere else, comign off the steering linkage?  is it loosing oil fast, or only a quart every 500 miles?  details would come in handy.

Mine was leaking oil too, had my oil pan gasket changed and it still leaked, the culprit was the front main "O' ring seal, got it changed and its dry as a bone now, also I was leaking rear diff fluid that seal got changed too. Hope this helps

im not sure i havent gone to look at it yet im going monday to check it out .... is the front main "O" ring seal hard to replace?

if involves dropping the oil pan, dropping the main bearing caps...  if you are not familiar with it, might have a freind come over and go through it with you...

it could the rear seal or the oil sending unit or the oil filter add.

yup common leak on those 4.0s is the o ring on the oil filter adapter thingy

it's about a 2 hr job for the rear main and less than an hour for the other..i do 1 or 2 of all a week when i am at the shop working not driving..
