Y-Link/Wishbone direction

ona wishbone style link does it matter where i put the single mounting point? can i mount the single side to the Axle? i dont see why this would be a issue, as i already have my triangulated link like that, but i need to change it up to set the axle backa inch or 2 to center it in the wheelwell when laid out. so can I/Should I do this? or do i need ot go another route? real estate is skimp under my burban for a loop over the driveline to mount the link to with out some major surgery.
