so i just picked up a 64 cadillac CDV with a 472 in it and i went to do the oil change and the guy at the parts count says it only takes 4 quarts "now let me remind you that this is a big block 472 7.7L engine"i went home and put in 4 didnt read on the stick so i added a 1/2 quart still nothing until i got to 7 quarts and it is finally reading at the "low oil mark on the dip stick" so i would need to add 1 more quart to make it to the full line (do i have the wrong dip stick in the car???)any help would be great

don't know about yours specifically, but my 454 takes 8 or 8 &1/2 so that sounds about right.

never trust an auto parts store kid...most likely you could get most of them to try & find you a radiator cap for a 66 vw beetle!

i just didnt want to over fill it. It had the oil pan chopped so it would be above the cross member(not sure how much it was cut) and it has a remote oil filter but that should only take about 1 quart (give or take). I figured it would take about 7 plus the oil filter but when the parts guy said that it had me worried THANKS GUYS. anyone out there that has a 472 so i can get some info?
