im a cheap ass and cant afford to buy a chop saw and want one but i have a miter box wood saw, and i swear ive heard of a way of converting it to a chop saw??
might be mistaken dont quote me on this but i dont think you can because the wood miter saw doesnt have enough RPM to be able to put a metal blade on and cut steel
i heard the other way acctually that it had to much rpm...
Well what is the RPM? If its too fast, well, have you ever put a CD on a 4" grinder? Imagine that with a 14" abrasive saw.
Personally, I doubt it would have enough torque to do much, but it might cut some small thin wall tube.
yeah prlly be pretty damn shitty .....i just want to cut the tubing for my backhalf and dont have the money for a chop...and want to keep it square...guess i will just wait..
most steel shops will do the cuts for you when you buy the material from them
local shops kinda suck...round here...and dont really get along with them..but will prlly just do it..
I used a compound miter saw made for wood (dewalt brand) with a 14" cut off disc on it. it cut my 2x3x.250 tubing, but you gotta take your time.. def cut the .120 stuff a lot quicker, but either way, you gotta take time.
Before I had a chop saw I used a Circular saw with a metal cutting blade on it. Works fine if you have something to clamp the tubing into to keep it from moving.
Chops saws really aren't that pricy. Hell, go get one at HF when the go on sale they're probably less than $50 and if it blows up they give you a new one.
