The issues you just mentioned are the main topics of discussion for all candidates. And there are some very different views from one candidate to the next. Even if as you say do nothing wouldn't you at least want someone who is "pretending" to work towards what you want.

Such as the topic of get soldiers out: McCain says he could see the united states having a presence in Iraq for the next 30-50 years. Hillary and Obama have said they want to have troops removed within months after going into office.

Gas Prices- McCain has suggested removing taxes on gas and diesel between memorial day and labor day. Hillary has backed this motion. I'm with Obama on this issue in that it is just a band-aid and would cost the government money which is needed to fix roads. It would save 18 cents a gallon but it's not going to drop the price back down to 1.00 like it was probably when you first started driving. Bush is pushing congress to allow drilling in an Alaskan nature reserve and build more refineries.
