help? headlight problems

need some help here. My headlights have been working find and dandy for the past few years. recently they went very dim like the battery was dying, but it is fine. 2 years ago I cleaned up the wiring and made a ground for each headlight meeting in the center instead of one on the side. I disconnected the driver side ground, headlight shut off...expected. But the passenger got bright. I made a new ground, and they go dim. Anyone have any ideas? I need full working headlights asap for a show/cruise this weekend.
