problems gettin into parking gear

yesterday i was trying to start my 95 sonoma and i couldnt get it to do anything then i checked afew things and realised that the shifter indicater says it was in reverse..but yet the shifter was as high up as i could go..anyone know how to fix this? my pops says thers some switch in the steering column to do maybe fix this..any ideas where i should be lookin?

drop it down into neutral and try turning the key on and then shift it up into park.

I had this same issue on my 96 blazer....
Check the shifter cable. It is most likely broken on the transmission gear selector (Under the truck on the trans)
I had to buy another cable from GM it was like 80.00

I had the same problem on my old caprice a few months back. Wouldn't go into park. The shifter arm that bolts to the transmission selector had come loose and just needed to be readjusted and tightened back up.
