Back Pressure Question

I keep popping the drivers side header gasket on my V8 S-10.

I use the Flowtech aluminum gaskets and I have popperd 4 of them on the drivers side.

It is a 355 SBC with Headman long tube headers. The headers have a 2.5" Y-pipe that crosses from the drivers side to the passanger side into a single Magnaflow muffler.

Is there too much back pressure? Would a dual exhaust cure my problem?

maybe, try putting some hi temp silicone(orange) in there on both sides of the gasket and let it cure, mite fix the problem or u need duals.

itll burn off. I use Perc'ys Seal-4-Good and I have never blown them or leaked even after reusing them after taking them apart 4 or 5 times. I can only speak for the head to flange gaskets though. My headers are the flange sealing type and i'd never buy anything that took a gasket at the collector again but i would assume the collector type to work just as well.Check out their xx carbon gaskets also.

The gaskets I use are basically the same as the Percy ones. I think a dual exhaust will help my situation.

Thanks for your help.

they might be similar but i have read somewhere that there are alot of imitations of the percys gaskets. sounds like your flanges are too thin. are they good headers?

I didn't really have a choice with the headers. I have hydros and the long tube headers are the only ones that will clear the steering shaft and the cylinder.

The flanges afr a bit thin Maybe 3/16".

I am off to the exhaust shop this morning to make it a dual setup and hopefully it will be a bit quieter too.

I'll post the results.

The dual solved the problem. No more popcorn machine sound. it is so much more quiet too.
