I need to weld some exhaust tubing on my gas filler neck ...
whats the best way to get all the gas out and make sure its perfectly clean before cutting/welding???
take it off the tank first lol. i just welded on mine, you could wash it w/ soap and water.
You could also fill it with some gas while welding it.. like C02 argon mix or whatever sheilding gas you use....
ok what about brake cleaner?? ... and yes I know to take it off...ass...lol
brake kleen will burn what we do is take it off drain it fill it with water for a day and then weld with the water in or drain the most of it out if you have to weld were your gas will be setting like the botttom or side you would do best to recoat your tank with some tank sealer just cheak with eastwood if you need it or napa can get it
ok to weld a gas tank. put dry ice in it. let it sit then weld all you want
i dont think you guys understand ..lol..
Im just welding the gas filler neck off of the truck ...shortening it and adding some exhaust tubing
so soap and water?? ...thats what I should run with ... any other thoughts?
If its just the filler neck, take a match and hold it against the side of it, I doubt it would lite up, even if it does it's not like its going to blow up since its open on both sides. Wash it with soapy water and weld away.
if its just the neck of it, then i wouldnt worry about it, i did some weldin on mine and all i did was take it of and started cutin and weldin, now the gas tank would be different. I found out the hard way water alone dont help even if its full of it and all the gas has been drained and rinsed. but on the brights side all my dents on the bottom poped out like new lol
